 ABENE VILLAGE SENEGAL

Laptop/s wanted to set up a small learning centre

I regularly visit West Africa, in particular a very small village on the coast of Senegal called Abene. The Beats-working project hands over mobile phones and laptops to help the villagers in their efforts to improve their communication to other areas of Senegal and the rest of the world.

So, I would like to ask you for your help. Would your drum/community/school group be able to help support me by donating an old laptop. Or Sponsor internet connection for Children to access the internet currently costing £18 per month.  I would be very happy to provide more information, I can give you links to google maps etc. Also telephone numbers in Senegal in order that I can prove my legitimacy and guarantee the money goes in total and direct to the villagers.

So if you would like to donate towards a computer or mobile contact me for details how to donate.

Thank you very much.

Steve

Sanganisai Children's Festival
Following the enormous success of Grassroots' Sanganisai Children’s Festival (SCF) in March 2007, which attracted around 3000 people and included workshops and performances by students from four schools from the Masvingo region and a group of international musicians from the UK. There are plans for a festival in 2009.

The festival aims to bring together various schools and communities from the rural areas of Masvingo to share through performances, workshops and discussions about issues relating to tuberculous (TB) and HIV/AIDS. The dates for SCF will be published shortly.

For further information about SCF, please contact the Festival Director, Ephson Ngadya, at:

 Mobiles for Africa    January 2009

If you have an old working mobile that you would like to give to someone in Africa then I would love to recieve it from you.

The mobile phone in Africa can make such a difference to someones life. Mail is almost none existant, unreliable, and slow. The mobile greatly increases communication in this vast country, whether for work, trade, or just to keep in contact with loved ones.

There are many scams where people are getting mobiles and selling them! I am not one of those people. I have pictures of those recieving mobiles (those that agree to be photographed!) I am happy to pass on your details to the recipient etc. If you have an 'Orange' locked mobile these are the best mobiles as Orange network is common in Senegal.
